We use books linked closely to children’s phonic stage when they are learning to read.  Children then practise reading these books at home.  We do this alongside a rich set of core books, reading events and story time to help children develop a love of reading.  Children in Yrs 3 – 6 use accelerated reader to support their independent reading alongside taught reading lessons which focus on comprehension and clarification strategies.

We teach synthetic phonics in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and provide additional support to make sure children don’t fall behind.  We also provide additional support for children in Yrs 3 – 6 who are still struggling with their phonics.  We use Read Write Inc for phonics and reading in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  Read Write Inc is a validated sytematic synthetic phonics programme.
